whitebaiting

Nestled along the scenic riverbanks of the Mokau, Mackford offers a unique whitebaiting experience like no other.

Whether you’re a seasoned whitebaiter or a first-timer keen to try, we invite you to be part of our story. Come throw a net, unwind, and create unforgettable memories.

The Mokau River is also a great spot for catching trout, kahawai, eels, and flounder.

The Awakino River, just a short drive away, is well-known for its trout fishing.

Nearby beaches offer excellent surfcasting and are ideal for longline or drone fishing.

If you’re in need of a few grocery supplies, pop down to Ma’s Place—about a 15-minute drive away. They’re also known for serving up a tasty whitebait fritter.

For a change of pace, the Mokau township is about 25 minutes away and features a local museum and a couple of charming cafés.
